Job Description
People within the Client Operations-AO workgroup are responsible for the day-to-day provision of long-term outsourcing services to one or several clients. Client Operations is where the majority of Services people reside and, typically, people in the workgroup are based permanently at a client location. Application Outsourcing (AO) incorporates skills which support the programming, management and maintenance services required to implement and support new installations or maintain and improve existing legacy systems for our clients.
Purpose of the Job:
Support both the production environment users and the development environment on MVS, DB2 and CICS. Mentor junior DB2 DBA assisting with skills development. Provide reports and recommendations to Team leader and management, on system performance and improvements
Provide guidance to developers on sql coding, Sita system DB2 programmer, on customizing DB2 for BAS, and review current DB2 procedures e.g. backup and restore, to identify areas to improve
Main Responsibilities/Tasks:
Authorization of TSO user-ids and granting of the relevant privileges to specific tables within certain production departments' databases
Monitoring of production reports to ensure that all scheduled reports no not exceed the agreed execution time and to improve the throughput of reports on the BAS system
To provide support to end users of the MVS environment
Working effectively as part of the team and seek to support team's goals
Identifying problems and bringing them to supervisor's attention with sufficient lead in time to avert crises
DB2 performance and tuning
Perform capacity planning on mainframe hosting services (storage and CPU)
Attend technical meetings and workshops with clients and third party stakeholders
Database Quality Assurance and reviews of all SQL Code for programs destined for release to production
Periodically perform standby duty - Respond to any DB2/CICS/VSAM problems experienced by production departments, as well as the maintenance team members
Extents setup and analysis of DB2 tables and VSAM files in Production and the continuous monitoring and rectification thereof
Monitoring and optimization of online transactions
Continuous improvement of any procedures used within platform support and operations support
Creation and setup of new DB2/CICS/VSAM objects whether a new department is implementing the BAS system
Monitoring of VSAM splits and scheduling of VSAM and database reorganizations whenever the need arises
Setup and perform database refreshes from production database tables to non-production databases
Creation of new database tables, table spaces and indexes as well as altering the structure of existing database tables
Perform release management and version control tasks when required
Peer review other team members procedural documents
Supervising and directing the Database Administration team at the Basic Accounting System (BAS) project, including setting up and monitoring of individual objectives, completion of Annual Contribution Summary ACS) documentation, input into promotions, completion and monitoring of Personal Development Plans(PDP) and general career guidance
Knowledge and Skills:
Minimum 2 years experience as a DB2 DBA in the z/OS environment
Working knowledge of DB2, WINDOWS 2000/XP, MVS, SQL, CICS and JCL
Batch operations and MVS architectures
Minimum 2 years experience as DBA in mainframe environment
Supervisory experience will be an advantage
Database planning and design (logical and physical), tuning, maintenance and recovery
Ability to support application development teams in database design and alterations as well as general database and system related issues and questions as well as work with system administrator in dealing with database related system issues
