Job Description
The Legal business practice provides and manages all legal advice and support to Accenture. Legal and Commercial aims to give objective, focused, practical advice and solutions based on an understanding of the law and Accenture's business, which is essential in a competitive marketplace. The Legal and Commercial teams work closely with each engagement to find ways to maximize revenue and manage risk and to ensure that Accenture complies with its contractual obligations.
Job Summary : Manage the prosecution of patent applications for designated business units of Accenture, including meeting with key developers, architects and inventors in those business units, harvesting and prioritizing innovation for patent protection, supervising outside counsel in preparing patent applications, coordinating with outside counsel in managing the prosecution of pending patent applications, reporting to relevant business stakeholders, and assisting as needed on other patent-related matters, including potential assertions and inbound threatened or actual litigation. This individual may supervise non-attorney staff.
- Help lead strategic patent procurement within each assigned Accenture business units, including educating inventors and business people on topics related to intellectual property law
- Manage and drive the process of procuring patent rights for Accenture, including: managing and evaluating all innovation disclosures that are developed those business units, initiating inventor contact and procurement of outside counsel, building, maintaining and managing relationships with inventors and outside counsel, from evaluation of innovations through the process of obtaining and maintaining granted patents
- Collaborate with outside counsel in the prosecution of patent applications and other intellectual property matters
Basic Qualifications:
Education:
J.D. required
Bachelors degree in technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, etc...
Must be a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent Office
Experience:
4+ years of experience practicing intellectual property/patent law (in-house corporate intellectual property/patent attorney or within a law firm)
Preferred Skills:
Experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications along with experience assisting intellectual property assertion reviews
Experience in patent and IP litigation and related counseling
Strong analytical skills, business acumen and the ability to effectively bridge the technical and commercial aspects of the work
In-depth knowledge of intellectual property and information technology law, ideally with software knowledge and experience
Ability to influence senior executive decisions
Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills
Ability to successfully manage outside counsel relevant to assigned work
Ability to prioritize issues and manage multiple projects, setting priorities for self and team
Capable of working independently and as part of a team
